In 1986, the music world was shaken by a hit of a new genre. Producer Rick Rubin had the idea of reviving "Walk This Way" by rockers Aerosmith by associating the rappers of Run-DMC and laid the foundation stone for a new sonic fusion. In his wake, Faith No More and the Red Hot Chili Peppers continued the experiment by shaking up rock, funk, rap, punk, pop and metal, later imitated by groups like Rage Against the Machine or Korn who added even more extreme ingredients. Hybridization became the norm, and the 2000s saw the advent of the genre, under the influence of heavyweights like Linkin Park, System of a Down, Deftones or Slipknot. Between rap rock, funk metal and nü-metal, this anthology explores thirty-five years of musical fusion through one hundred of their most representative works.
