About
Music, Résonance and Me
Barely out of my teens, I was lucky enough to be hired at the only independent record store in Aylmer, my hometown. This first job left a lasting impression on me.
Even though I've had some pretty cool, comfortable jobs in my life, I've always said that "this was the best job I've ever had." I loved listening to music all day, chatting with like-minded people, and being surrounded by vinyl records.
Fast forward a few years… I went to school, held “real” jobs, changed jobs and fields several times, but my interests remained the same, crystallized in the adult I had become.
I've always loved bookstores: their atmosphere, the smell of books, the knowledge that floats there. Time stands still there. I could have spent my entire life there.
When I visited the Rough Trade store in New York a few years ago, dedicated to records, books, and featuring a small concert hall, I realized my dream had a name: Resonance.
My dream was born.
However, it was necessary to have the right moment and above all… to dare to take the plunge!
Having lost my previous small business due to the pandemic, I found myself faced with a life choice: what to do next?
That's when my wife brought up that unspeakable dream: "You've always dreamed of having a bookstore. It's now or never!"
I was 55. She was right.
So I began my research, understanding the bookstore ecosystem, choosing books, and finally—most importantly—finding a location.
After a few months of searching for the perfect place, I finally found it, exactly where I hoped: in Petite-Patrie, near Mile-End, on Beaubien Street. Let's GO!
"If you don't go for it, it's because you don't have the courage." Yes, my wife again.
She was right, so I took the plunge!
For the past 18 months, there have been nearly 2,000 titles in bookstores, 37 events, 4 articles in newspapers (La Presse, Le Devoir, The Gazette, Métro), 2 appearances on Radio-Canada radio, and countless meetings with big names in music from here and elsewhere (Warren Ellis, Martha Wainwright, Daniel Bélanger, Dumas, Vincent Vallières, Jérôme Minière, Jeff Tweedy, etc.) and, above all, a community of passionate music lovers.
