Félix B. Desfossés Translated by Geneviève Has Created by Ian Campbell

The evolution of Quebec metal traces the birth of an underground musical movement, but one that has been omnipresent in the Quebec musical landscape for over 30 years. Consciously or not, local metal has been imbued with the primitive and provocative garage rock of the 60s, the stratospheric flights of psychedelic rock, the complex structures of progressive rock, the weight of heavy rock, the rebellion of punk and hardcore, the cassette demos of local speed/thrash metal, the savagery of crossover smashing or the pioneers of death metal. This story is built on a skeleton of quotes taken from over a hundred interviews at the center of which lies the heart of Quebec metal: Voïvod. From Hou-Lops to Offenbach and Aut’Chose, via D.D.T., Sword and DBC, to Obliveon and Gorguts. The French edition was published in 2014 and was a huge success, in addition to benefiting from exceptional media coverage. This English translation has been awaited by English-speaking readers for several years.
